Protesters accuse security agents of dereliction of duty and endangering their lives.
A three day old abandoned corpse on the Mararaba to Nyanyan road which links Nigeria's Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to Nasarawa State caused mayhem on Wednesday attracting traffic bottlenecks on the road notorious for traffic jams as protesters blocked the major highway.
An eyewitness said, "Someone died on the road more than three days ago and the corpse has been left here. However, shortly after the incident occurred, security operatives visited the scene and took photographs of the corpse yet they haven't made any comment."
Speaking further, he added, "Instead of evacuating the corpse, security officers have been arresting motorcycle riders in the area."
Many motorists and travellers were left stranded around the Mararaba-Nyanayan area as angry youths, motorcycle riders, and other transport workers blocked the road over a decaying corpse under the bridge.
The protesters say that the decaying corpse is posing a health hazard to them and passengers around the busy road that links Abuja to Nasarawa state.
