Thirty year old Nigeria British multiple World Heavyweight Champion with four belts, Anthony Joshua will become a Yoruba Chief in March when he revists Nigeria.
The young handsome Anthony Joshua who hails from Sagamu the headquarters of the Ijebu Remo tribe of Nigeria had visited the famous African Shrine of the late African Music legend, Fela Anikulapo Kuti where he presented his belts to the heir apparent of the shrine, Femi Kuti who was elated to have AJ as he is worldly known to visit the shrine like the young French President, Macron did sometimes ago.
AJ after fraternizing with the people at the shrine had danced to some old tunes of Fela which sent the Shrine into a frenzy but Femi was captivated when AJ presented him the recovered world title belts that he wore one of them, shut out and beat his chest shouting, “Nigeria is Champion of the world”. The video of AJ to the shrine is trending on the social media throughout the world.
Femi aged 57 said he was touched at the humility and Omoluwabi quality of AJ aged 30 in the show of respect to the Fela ANikulapo family and his person.
The amazing thing of AJ’s visit to his hometown of Shagamu was how the whole town was shut down giving him a heros welcome on his first appearance in Nigeria since he reclaimed his WBA, IBF, WBO, and IBO titles from Mexico’s Andy Ruiz in Saudi Arabia.
Joshua’s visit was celebrated by hundreds of fans, who surrounded him, singing praises during his visit to the Alaafin Elepe Palace and the Akarigbo of Remo land.
Speaking with The Guardian yesterday, the Chief of Staff to Akarigbo of Remo, Alhaji Iliasu Aina disclosed that the traditional ruler would confer a chieftaincy title on Joshua next month.
“Joshua’s visit on Wednesday was an impromptu one,” Aina told The Guardian in a telephone conversation yesterday. “He is coming back to Nigeria in March, and he is going to be conferred with a chieftaincy title. He is our son and it was really a delight for us to receive him in his hometown on Wednesday,” Alhaji Aina, popularly known as Merry, Merry, said.
The Chief of Staff to Akarigbo of Remo did not give details on the type of title to be bestowed on Joshua next month, it was learned, however, that the boxer might be crowned the Ajagungbade of Yoruba land (A warrior who fights and brings crowns).
AJ had earlier approached the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) to obtain his National Identification Number (NIN).
Daily Sports report that Saudi Arabia has approached him to return a mega fight with the winner of Deontay Wilder versus Tyson Fury taking place in hours (Sunday morning at Las Vegas) but his promoter Eddie Hearns hinted his next bout will be in May aginst Russian Kubrat Pulev after AJ would have become a Chief.
Feelers from Las Vegas as at noon Nigerian time of Saturday says Anthony Joshua will not be in Las Vegas to watch the FURY/Welder rematch.
