APC problems deepens as Deputy National Secretary declares self as Chairman and nullify primaries.

NWC rejects Giadom on Wednesday. He had ceased to be a member of the NWC as he resigned to contest as Deputy Governor in his state.

More drama is unfolding in the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the Deputy National Secretary of the All Progressive Congress, Victor Giadom on Wednesday, announced himself as the new Acting National Chairman of the party.

Addressing the media at the national Secretariat of the party, Giadom summarily voided the screening of the party that freeze out Godwin Obaseki as a gubernatorial candidate.

As if running a Nollywood movie, the National Working Committee NWC that Giadom said was backing him said he has no mandate to neither occupy the claimed Chairmanship position nor speak on behalf of the party.

In fact, 15 of the NWC members on Wednesday dissociated themselves from Gaidom.

Speaking for the 15 NWC members, 12 of whom were in attendance, Hilliard Eta, the APC national vice-chairman (South-south) said Mr. Gaidom has not returned to the NWC since he resigned his position to contest as deputy governor in the last Rivers State governorship election.

“You said Chief Victor Gaidom has annulled the screening of Edo State governorship aspirants. Even a properly elected chairman that is currently on suspension cannot on his own make such decision.

“Chief Victor Gaidom has long ceased to be a member of the NWC. He has voluntarily resigned his membership to be able (because that is the constitution of our party) to contest as deputy governorship candidate of our party.

“And, at no time – I (Mr. Eta) superintend over the South-South and at no time – did I present Gaidom again to come to the NWC. You can check all the records and you will see that this is the fact,” Mr. Eta said.

Earlier, Mr. Giadom explained that he has taken over based on a previous court order empowering him to do so.

According to him, he has the backing of the members of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC).

Below is the court order

He said his action was sequel to a meeting held with other members of the National Working Committee after Tuesday’s Appeal Court ruling affirming the suspension of the substantive National Chairman, Adams Oshiomhole.

He said, “Yesterday (Tuesday) the Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja, in a unanimous judgment, affirmed the suspension of Comrade Adams Oshiomhole as National Chairman of All Progressives Congress.

“Consequently, I bring to your notice that on the 16th of March 2020, Hon Justice S.U Bature in suit no FCT/HC/M/6447/2020 had ordered that, with the earlier suspension of Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, I, Chief Hon. Victor Giadom should act as the National Chairman of our great party.

“That Order could not be immediately effected at the time because of the temporary reprieve Adams Oshiomhole got from the court of Appeal on the same date.”

He further said, “As your Acting National Chairman and presiding officer in the NWC, we therefore cancel the decision of the Screening and Appeal Committees of the former Chairman of the party on the Edo primary.”

Giadom’s announcement is coming a few hours after the National Publicity Secretary of the party, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, issued a statement announcing the Deputy National Chairman (South), Senator Abiola Ajimobi as Acting National Chairman.

“According to Section 14.2. (iii), of the APC constitution, the Deputy National Chairman, North/South ‘Shall act as the National Chairman in the absence of the National Chairman from his zone’,” the statement said.

Ruling on the interlocutory appeal filed by Comrade Oshiomhole, the appellate court upheld the decision of the Federal Capital Territory High Court delivered by Justice Danlami Senchi which in March ordered the suspension of Oshiomhole as well as restraining him from parading himself as the National Chairman of the party.

In a unanimous judgement in the first appeal delivered by Justice Eunice Onyemanam, the court held that the FCT High Court had territorial jurisdiction to have entertained the suit as it did.

The court also withdrew his rights and privileges as National Chairman of the party including his security details.
