Astute Diplomat, Prof. Ibrahim Agboola Gambari is new Chief of Staff to the President.

Professor Agboola Ibrahim Gambari has been appointed as the new chief of staff to President Muhammadu Buhari.

Prof. Gambari, a Nigerian scholar, diplomat and an indigene of Kwara State was appointed to replace the late Abba Kyari on Tuesday, May 12.

He will be presented to the virtual meeting of the Federal executive Council (FEC) on Wednesday before being formerly presented to the nation.

Born 75 years ago precisely 24th November 1944 to the royal Gambari family of Ilorin, Kwara State Prof Gambari’s perhaps most academic book is THEORY AND REALITY IN FOREIGN POLICY MAKING: NIGERIA AFTER THE SECOND REPUBLIC.

Prof. Gambari was reputed to be one of the backers of the killing of Environmentalist and Poet, Ken Saro Wiwa under Sanni Abacha as well as the annulment of June 12 under Ibrahim Babangida.

Professor Ibrahim Agboola Gambari, who is the founder and current Chairman of Savannah Centre for Diplomacy, Democracy and Development (SCDDD), a Non-Governmental and Non-Profit Think-Tank committed to policy research, advocacy and training in diplomacy, democracy and development in Nigeria and Africa in general, is also currently serving as the Special Adviser to the Secretary-General of the Commonwealth of Nations on Political Dialogue and Elections in Zambia.

Ibrahim Agboola Gambari, CFR (born November 24, 1944, in Ilorin, Kwara State, Nigeria) is a Nigerian scholar and diplomat. He was Minister for External Affairs between 1984 and 1985. Gambari has been appointed by the secretary-general of United Nations Ban Ki-moon and the chairperson of the African Union Commission as Joint African Union-United Nations Special Representative for Darfur effective from 1 January 2010.[1] He is currently the Special Adviser on the International Compact with Iraq and Other Issues for the Secretary-General of the United Nations. Previously, he served as the Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations (USG) for the Department of Political Affairs (DPA). He was appointed on June 10, 2005, and assumed the post on July 1 of that year.
