BLACK SATURDAY AS NIGERIA LOSES FOOTBALLER.AMBULANCE HAD TO BE PUSHED UNTO THE FIELD OF PLAY.

The sky over Nigerian football went black Sunday at the Lafia Stadium when a Nasarawa United player, Chinema Martins slumped and died after colliding with an opponent from the visiting Katsina United in the center circle and died.

The situation was compounded when the Ambulance parked beside the touchline could not work and had to be pushed into the field of play. A police van and a vehicle on the Press Corp of the Governor were drafted in but the player had already died due to inadequate medical attention.

Although Nasarawa United won the match 3-0 in the week 23 encounter, but the entire team and handlers wept sore as the body of Martins was driven to the morgue where he slept Saturday night instead of the comfort of his bed in victory.

Fans left the stadium as if they went to attend a burial ceremony as they equally wept by the road side.

Nasarawa United had just escaped from relegation zone and the late Chinema Martins had played a vital role as a player who loves to challenge for balls.

You will recall that Sam Okwaraji a prolific midfielder of the Super Eagles died 1992 in like manner after colliding with an Angolan player in a world cup match.

A Cameroonian player Marc Vivien Foe also died in like manner playing for Cameroon in a Confederation match.
