Bomb explosions hit Calabar Friday afternoon, residents panic

An explosion on Friday at about 1430 hours Nigerian time rocked Explosions have rocked the Nigerian Army 146 Battalion, Eburutu Cantonment, Calabar in Cross River State.

Some residents said the explosions started on Thursday, expressing fear and apprehension.

The explosions shook buildings, breaking windows and ceilings of houses at Golf View Estate that was close by..

A source in the military, however, said that it was a routine exercise that started before Friday.

“They are only detonating expired explosives; it is a routine exercise. People should not panic, there was no invasion,” the source said.

In the past, the Public Relations unit of the Cantonment or the Army Headquarters would have issued pre operational warning statements.

Patmos Media Line recalls that such an act happened at the Ikeja Cantonment in Lagos and the resultant effect saw some panicking Lagosians jump into the canal which caused several deaths.
