Federal Government of Nigeria is carrying her corruption crusade to the family units.
President MuhammaduBuhari said this Thursday at the opening of a National Conference on Repositioning the Muslim Family for National Development instituted by the First Lady, Dr. AishatBuhari in Abuja.
President Buharisaid thefamily is the primary unit of human society and overall development of the family unit cannot be over emphasized stressing that “effort in fighting corruption and introducing attitudinal change must begin with the family”.
He pointed out that only a stable family can meaningfully contribute to a stable nation so we must enhance family values as he pleaded with Religious leaders, Christians and Muslims, to as a matter of urgency, redirect their preaching and teaching on family issues towards enhancing family values.
President Buhari also said poverty alleviation will further elevate families so his governmentintroduced social investment programmes which saved many families from distress ditto the school feeding programmes that has moved many children from the streets.
He explained that the organizers of the conference have been holding counseling and conducting seminars in five states before the former launching challenging them to come up with practical recommendations that will help government in the drive for social regeneration.
The first Lady, Dr. Mrs. AishatBuhari posited that families are the pivot of national development and marital challenges affect negatively the state of a nation.
The Senate President, Lawan who was not listed to give a Goodwill message said the Senate will cooperate with the President to render better services to the nation also asking the conference to suggest further legislation that will better the Muslim marriages.
She emphasized that the Almajiries are a product of marital negligence, mismanagement and divorce who are being indoctrinated into several cults that are presently creating problems for the nation.
Present at the ceremony were the Sultan of Sokoto, The Ooni of Ife, The Emir of Kano, Governors, the academia and the Muslim Ulamas.
