· Beninoise security operatives quiz Igboho.

· Judge delayed court attendance.

· Igboho returned to custody with operatives.

· Igboho to be tried for fake passport.

Yoruba Nation agitator, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has been returned to cell in Benin Republic.

This is as the Court D’Appeal in Cotouno adjourned the case involving the Yoruba rights activist till Friday, July 23, 2021.

It was gathered that the trial judge expected to hear the case of Igboho was not in court as at 1800 hrs.

A source at the court said all the lawyers and spectators were already seated at the court premises but were still waiting for the presiding Justice to appear for the proceeding.

Igboho and his wife have been in custody since their arrest at the Cardinal Bernardin International airport, Cotonou, at about 2000 hours as they attempted to board a flight to Germany on Monday.

Another source said Beninoise security operatives interrogated embattled Yoruba Igboho on Thursday morning of which their report will be a vital instrument to court proceedings.

A judicial source confirmed to BBC Pidgin that Igboho and his wife, Ropo are with operatives of Brigade criminelle in Cotonou.

It was gathered after the interrogation, he was taken to court to appear before the Court d’Appel in Cotonou.

The court is expected to debate on the international arrest warrant issued against him.

If it is found to be in order, he’ll be extradited.

But if the warrant is defective from the legal or administrative angle, he’ll be referred before the prosecutor.

It was also learnt that since Igboho did not commit any of the alleged crimes in Benin Republic, the prosecutor will determine the next steps.

A different report says all entreaties by the Federal government of Nigeria for extradition to Nigeria by Lt. Gen Tukur Brutai Ambassador to Nigeria in Benin may have woefully failed as the Benin authorities plan to prosecute Igboho for using a fake Beninoise passport which is a crime in their country. Igboho may therefore be sentenced to jail in Benin Republic and not brought back to Nigeria.

It is said the diplomatic corps in Benin are putting pressure on the tiny country that Igboho did not commit any crime agitating for freedom. Britain is willing to show Republic of Benin a grant of Asylum to slight the Nigerian government over the Kanu issue.
