The Sekere and talking drums symbol of intimate communication with his Imperial Majesty, The Alaafin of Oyo are sounding endlessly at the Royal palace in the ancient city as the 81 year old Oba Lamidi Adeyemi 111 was blessed with another baby boy last Sunday.
The news was first out from the mother of the baby, Damilola’s Instagram page where she posted the photograph of the baby with a write up: “Allamudullillai on my new born baby boy. Congratulations to me. Oba ti de”.
Olori Damilola is the youngest of the seven Oloris in His Imperial Majesty, the Alaafin of Oyo’s harem.
In 2018, three of his wives gave birth to a set of twins each. One of the mothers, Badera is currently on her National Youth Service in Lagos.
The Alaafin who turned 81 years old last October 15 was a Lagos based pugilist (Boxer) and Accountant before he was crowned the Alaafin and is reputed to be the most physically fit Oba in Yoruba land as he has been taking his daily physical exercises and road run seriously. He is vast with the history and culture of Yoruba land.
Patmos Media Line gathered that there would be no serious event at the palace on Sunday when Olori Damilola’s baby is expected by custom to be named.
We learnt that the Oyo Palace has a different process as a new date will be chosen for the baby to be taken to the Otun Efa house for naming rites and name giving before the Alaafin will paint the town red on the same day with ‘Owambe party’.
In one of the rites for the two sets of twins that were born within a spate of two weeks in 2018, the Alaafin assembled an array of Juju and Fuji Musicians with a local DJ to take care of the young at heart.
