Former sportswomen in Nigeria have gathered together in Abuja, the nation’s capital to plot a better sporting environment for Nigerian sports.


The women, who gathered under the name All Former Female Athletes of Nigeria (AFFAN) at the NAF Centre at the weekend, chose a retired Director in the Sports Ministry, Dr. Mrs. Toyin Aluko who is Olympic Games bound to anchor the affairs of the women until they hold elections after the summer Olympics around July this year.



Patmos Media Line gathered that the women had already started with some projects one of which was going round schools in Abuja to stop sexual harassment in sports.


Great Nigerian women who gathered to chart a way forward for Nigerian sports was Jemila Buhari the first female FIFA badged football referee and member of the NFF Board; first female 1996 Olympic Gold Medalist, Police Officer, Chioma Ajunwa; first woman to win field and track medal for Nigeria in 1964, Mrs. Bola Poppola; former veteran athletics heroine, Dr. Mrs. Olajimi; first National female Basketball coach, Dr. Mrs. Uche Nnebudem and former female Basketball Captain, Stella Agu.

Nobody could explain why former Commonwealth Game Gold Medalist, Falilat Ogunkoya who reports said was among the originators for the women’s forum was absent.
