Dr. Akabe takes over governance of Nasarawa State as Governor Sule goes abroad for medical tourism.

A Consultant Ophthalmologist, Dr. Emmanuel Akabe took over governance of Nasarawa State with effect from Monday 13th December 2020 as his principal, Engr. Abdullahi Sule joined the many Nigerian leaders on medical tourism abroad from Sunday.

Dr. Akabe held the Ophthalmology Department of the National Hospital, Abuja before he was appointed Commissioner for Health in the State under Umaru Tanko Al-Makura in 2015 and elected Deputy Governor in 2019.

Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa state formerly notified the state House of Assembly that he is traveling to the United States of America for medical check-up beginning from December 13 to 29, 2020.

Speaker of the House Hon. Ibrahim Balarabe Abdullahi, made this known while reading the governor’s letter to the members of the house on Monday, in Lafia, titled “Notification to travel to the United States of America”. The letter reads, “I wish to inform the Rt. Hon speaker that I shall be traveling to the United States of America for medical check-up from Sunday, 13th to Saturday 29th December 2020. “Accordingly, in my absence, the Deputy Governor would oversee the affairs of the state pending my return.”

The ailment of Governor Sule that could not be treated in Nigeria was not made public.
