The Junior Elephants (Petite Enfant) of Cote D’Ivoire are to meet the Golden Eaglet in the Zone B WAFU U17 football final on Wednesday as the Ivorians defeated the Niger Republic U17 team 1-0 in the second semifinal Friday night.
Earlier the Golden Eaglets had emerged from the waiting room to beat Burkina Fasso 1-0 to qualify for finals in the same stadium to qualify for the African final in Morocco with Cote D’Ivoire.
The Ivorien made some strides at the U17 African level football being Champions in 2013; placed 3rd in 2005 and 4th in 2011. The country won bronze at the FIFA U17 finals in 1987 unlike the Golden Eaglets who were clear five times world champions.
However, Niger Republic will engage Burkina Faso in the 3rd Place match on Monday 18th January at 1530 hours not Wednesday as reported by Patmos Media Line Sports.
Later at 1900 hours at the same venue the Golden Eaglets will lock horns with Cote D’Ivoire in the finals.
The Ivoriens had beaten Nigeria 1-0; slammed Ghana 3-1 before scaling Niger Republic 1-0.
