Emir of Zazzau in Zaria, Emir Shehu Idris has passed on at 84.

The traditional monarch, Emir Shehu Idris of Zaria in Kaduna state has reportedly joined his ancestors at the age of 84 years.

He was the 18th Emir of Zazzau and the Chairman of the Zazzau Emirate Council.

Kaduna state Governor, Nasir El-Rufai confirmed the passing of the emir in a tweet on Sunday after visiting the hospital where the Emir passed on.

The late is to be buried at 5pm of Sunday in Zaria, Kaduna governor Nasir El-Rufai also announced.

The late Emir, who celebrated 45 years on the throne in February this year, reportedly died at the 44 Army Reference Hospital, Kaduna at about 12 noon on Sunday, according to impeccable sources.

The Governor had stopped at the entrance to console a few traditional rulers who were seen crying, before entering his vehicle and departing.

The Chief of Staff to the President, Prof. Ibrahim Gambari who is leading the Federal Government delegation had been on ground in Zaria as early as 3pm of Sunday for the burial.

Former Senator Shehu Sani who confirmed this on his Tweeter handle expressed sadness at the loss of a great leader.

Personal Assistant on New Media to the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), confirmed his death in a tweet.

Ahmad tweeted, “The Emir of Zazzau, Alhaji (Dr.) Shehu Idris died at the age of 84, he had been on the throne for over 40 years. May Allah (SWA) forgive all his shortcomings and grant him Jannah al-Firdaus.”
