EUROPEAN FOOTBALL CHAMPIONS DETHRONED ON HOME GROUND. LIVERPOOL OUT!

The European Champions League defending champion, Liverpool FC has been dethroned but not banished as it is in Nigeria where the team has a lot of followership.

The team Wednesday night lost at their home ground, Anfield when visiting Athletico Madrid (ATM) of Spain scored two goals within extra time, one by Llorenta in 105 +1 and other at the very tail end of 120+1 minute by Morata.

Holland’s International, Wijnaldem raised Liverpool’s hope scoring a classical header in the 43rd minute to make it 1-1 on aggregate since (ATM) defeated them 1-0 in the first leg.

Roberto Firmino raised Liverpool adrenalin when he scored four minutes into extra time (94th minute) but the same Llorenta equalized three minutes later (97th minute) before he got the brace at the close of the first half of extra time.

It was a night the god of soccer destined that Liverpool must be dethrone as the team played better football stringing 854 passes to ATM’s 363; had 72% to 28% ball possession; got 11-6 shots on target and 16-3 corner kicks but the hallmark resilience of ATM gave the club a thoroughfare to the last 8 teams in Europe.

At the Parc des Princes stadium in Paris, Paris Saint Germain (PSG) playing in an empty stadium for fear of Corona Virus slammed their visiting German opponent, Borusia Dortmund 2-0 scaling through to the last 8 with a 3-2 goals aggregate having lost the first leg 1-2 in Germany.

Brazilian talisman, Neymar opened scoring in the 28th minute, and while the first half was being rounded off Bernat gave it to PSG with his goal in 45+1 minute.

Borussia was only able to make two shots on target with no goal; PSG was more desperate bagging five yellow cards to Borusia’s 2 while the visitors had more control of the ball with more ball possession and passes.
