FG pegs team participation at the National Sports Festival months after Athletes have been in camp.

The Main Organizing Committee (MOC) of the National Sports Festival scheduled for Benin, the Edo State capital Monday canceled participation of some teams at the Sports meeting after several months of camping presumably due to scarcity of funds to run the games.

Secretary of the MOC, Peter Nelson in a letter on Monday made available to Patmos Media Line Sports directed to all Honorable Sports Commissioners; Chairmen of All Sports Councilsand Head of Sports Councils was titled REDUCTION IN THE NUMBER OF ZONAL QUALIFIERS FOR TEAM SPORTS.

Nelso informed of an amendment to Rule 13 (v) of the General Rules and Regulations of the National Sports Festival (2020) by reducing the number of qualifiers from each Zone due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

He emphasized that ONLY one Team (i.e. the team that placed first at the Zonal Eliminations), shall represent a Zone in each Team Sport at the 20th National Sports Festival in order to reduce the number of participants at the Festival.

According to him, It is pertinent to state that this, amongst other measures are being put in place to safeguard the lives of all participants during the Festival.

Fears were high that the festival will be postponed for the umpteenth time because the Edo State Government weary of about three postponements said it could not fund the festival as hosts though it has put in place necessary facilities.
