The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila Saturday promised to cater for the family of the slain newspaper vendor, Ifeanyi Okereke, who was shot by his security detail on Thursday in Abuja the nation’s capital
The Speaker accompanied by the spokesperson of the house, Benjamin Kalu, and some aides condoled with the wife and family of the late vendor at Kwata village, Madalla-Suleja, Niger State.

Also at the home of the deceased were members of the Association of Newspapers Distributors led by their President, Benjamin Obute.

The victim was rushed to the National Hospital by his colleagues after being hit by the bullet but died on arrival at the hospital.
Mr. Gbajabiamila had in a statement vowed not let the matter slide. He promised to cater for the family of the deceased.

He also identified the aide as Abdullahi Hassan, whom the SSS has since detained.
A friend of the late Okereke one Mr. Emmanuel said in a Patmos Media Report that Speaker Gbajabiamila had been their friend before he was appointed Speaker and came to visit them as usual and upon his decision to give them money as usual told them to collect ‘something’ from his ADC and the DSS man came shooting.
Okereke was to name his son on Friday 20th November but was shot dead on 19th November which moved the Speaker almost to tears. He refused to talk to journalists and kept a straight face which is usual to Yoruba elders when they are in pains.
He however, did not betray any signs as he chatted with the late Okereke’s wife and even carried Okereke’s baby.
