House of Reps bow to pressure now to give public hearing to controversial Public Disease Bill.

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila has told the house that the controversial Control of Infectious Diseases Bill 2020 will be given public hearing before it comes to the Committee of the Whole House.

The Speaker said this during Tuesday plenary session transmitted live from the National Assembly.

Mr. Femi Gbajabiamila, who seemed to have bowed to public pressure, however, disagreed with those who condemned the timing of the bill, insisting that it was appropriate to enact such a bill at this time.

The speaker made the remarks against the backdrop of the controversies that have trailed the bill when it was speedily passed through the first and second readings on Tuesday last week.

The public is restless about this promise as some said there may be a booby trap somewhere as the same House of Reps had stated earlier that it would avoid Public hearing because of covid-19 public gathering rules.

The criticism over the bill had gone uncontrollable in the social media where public and private bodies including prominent individuals had argued that it was a deprivation of the fundamental human rights of any citizen for any government to enact a law making it compulsory for her citizens to take covid-19 vaccines.

It got to the extent that some especially Lawyers threatened to secure an interlocutory injunction perpetually restraining the House of Representatives from passing the bill into law and restraining Mr. President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria from signing the bill into law.

Some alleged that Government took financial gratification from the Vaccine peddlers abroad to administer it to Nigerians by force calling on the people to tell their Reps to distant themselves from anti people bills.
