Sensational Nigeria’s Israel Adesanya Sunday morning could not fulfill a wish to kill his Cuban challenger, Yoel Romero in the ring but retained his Kick Boxing Middleweight belt by unanimous decision.
Third man in the ring, Dan Miragliotta had headache controlling the weird display of vicious Romero at the UFC 248 in Las Vegas, while spectators kept flashing their phone flash into the dark venue.
Adesanya drove himself into the arena in a Porsche car at 3:55 am Nigerian time before Romero came in being escorted at 4:12 am.
Adesanya turned Romero’s knees to red with heavy kicks that made Romero fall to his knees four times while his challenger kept pumping the Nigerian with dangerous jabs to the body but the judges gave the bout to Adesanya, 48-47; 48-47 and 49-46.
Adesanya is 30 years but fought the old fox, Romero who will turn 43 next month. Romero, the Olympic Silver medalist wrestler, got the chance to fight the champion because top contender, Paulo Costa who was in line had bicep surgery.
Called THE LAST STYLE BLENDER, the high rising, Adesanya spoke of his opponent before the fight saying: “He is the guy no one wants to fight” adding, “I want 5-0. I want a wash out, I want a clean sweep but if he dies, it’s not really my problem”. Their fight went into five terribly vicious rounds.
In the other championship fight, we had the greatest fight in women history, a brutal and bloody war of over 25 minutes as Weili Zhang kept her Straw weight belt over Joanna Jedrzyczyk in a split decision of 27-28, 28-27, and 28-27.
Two welterweight fights took place, Brazilian Cowboy, Alex Oliveira (19-2-1) got unanimous win over Max Griffin (15-7-0) while American Neil Magny (21-8-0) also got unanimous decision over Li Jingliang (17-5-0).
