Journalist Joe ‘Atuma’ Abiola dies in Ibadan.

The Fourth Estate of the Realm Thursday lost a veteran journalist, Mr. Joe Abiola alias “Atuma” who passed away Thursday afternoon 2 July 2020 at his Apata Housing Estate in Ibadan.

Joe Atuma who operated within the Western Press in Nigeria had appeared looking frail at the burial of former Nigerian Union of Journalist NUJ and Press Secretary to ECOMOG, Sehindemi Dagunduro late last year in Ibadan

Family source disclosed he gave up the ghost due to old age related illnesses.

He plied his journalistic career in the defunct Daily Sketch where he rose to a senior editorial position. He was made the Lagos Zonal Manager of the paper before he retired.

After his retirement he was appointed the foundation Managing Director of the defunct Third Eye Newspapers. A paper owned by his in law Chief Akanni Aluko.

In his lifetime, he was active in the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) and rose to a position of Chairman of NUJ Oyo State Chapter.

He is reported to be active on the forum of the Veteran league of Journalists.
