NAVAL SEA WARRIORS ARE NIGERIA’S BEST FIGHTERS

The Coach and Boxers of the victorious Sea Warriors of The Nigerian Navy with Referees/Judges.

The Sea Warriors Boxing Club of Lagos has emerged champions of the first ever Nigeria Series Boxingtagged Season One held at the Brai Ayanote Boxing Complex of the National Stadium, Lagos by the Nigeria Boxing Federation.

The Season One experiment ran according to the present Olympic standard in eight categories of five rounds each in Super weight (+91); Heavy weight (91); Light weight (81); Middle weight (77); Welter weight (69); Light weight (63); Feather weight (57) and Fly weight (52).The present experiment is for men only though the Olympics of which Nigeria was an expected star country now include women.

Four Clubs were involved in the grand finale of the experiment which ended last weekend after a series of bouts held fortnightly among the four clubs. Following the Sea Warriors of the Nigerian Navy as second was the Lagos Bombers Club, third was De Rocks club of Abeokuta and fourth was the Delta Force club.

The 81 Kg class was more of a novelty as Rasheed Idowu of Sea Warriors got the first knock out in the finals over Ehwarieme Innocent of Delta Force while Oladimeji Salami of De Rock’s opponent Obanla Opeyemi threw in the towel in round one. Oladimeji was crowned winner of that category.

Segun Adeyemi conveniently took the 69Kg crown after he got a unanimous 3-0 victory over Sunday Godstime of Delta Force. Sholanke Oladimeji of De Rocks walked over Abdulazeez Osoba of Lagos Bombers but Adeyemi beat him on points to earn the crown.

Odesile Taofeek Ora of Sea Warriors took the 63Kg crown. He had thrashed Christian Nwawko of Delta Force when the Referee stopped the contest in round one while Fatai Ajadi lost 1-2 to Sodiq Oyakojo of De Rocks.

Although Yusuf Adeniji did not fight in the 57Kg finals, he shared the crown with his Sea Warrior club mate Dolapo Omole who got a win over Clever Ozegbe of Delta Force when the Referee stopped the contest in round two while Sanus iAbiodun of De Rocks was third best with his 3-0 win over Saheed Abdulahi of Lagos Bombers.

In the last category of 52 Kg, Ayobami Kasali of De Rocks who was class winner walked overAfolabi Shittu of Lagos Bombers while Riliwan Salawu of Delta Force had unanimous 3-0 decision over Femi Daniel of Sea Warriors.



Secretary of the NBF, Mr. Tunde Laguda told Patmos Media Line that Season Two will definitely witness an increase in club participation as the NBF has given opportunities to interested corporate and individual clubs to register. According to him, NBF will produce great fighters who will ruffle the world before the 2024 Olympic Games with the likes of wonderful boxers discovered at the Boxing Series.
