The perennial sports rivalry between Nigeria and Ghana is being rekindled again as both countries who are top African U17 women scorers are to clash for a spot to the world U17 women’s championship.
Ghana Maidens had beaten their Liberian counterparts 3-0 in Monrovia and 7-0 in Accra making 10-0 on aggregate while Nigeria’s Flamingos thrashed Guinea 6-1 away and 5-1 in Lagos to make 11-2 goals aggregate.
South Africa Bayana Bayana maiden lost to Zambia 0-2 in Lusaka but managed to get 3-0 in Jo’Borg to set up a meeting with Morocco.
Baby Lioness of Cameroun got a 10-0 aggregate over Sao Tome and Principe to meet Ugandan Babes. Uganda beat the female Taifa Stars of Tanzania 6-2.
The first leg matches will be played in May.
Nigeria and Ghana were the teams to beat in Africa from the 60’s to the 70’s and both teams put in more than they can offer anytime they met. Ghana used to hold sway especially in football until the tide changed in the 80’s.
