NIGERIAN BOXING FEDERATION LOSES BABA UYEEE.GREATEST BOXING JUDGE EVER IN NIGERIA.-Patmos Media Line
The Nigerian Boxing family smarting from a ridiculous non-Olympic qualifier appearance in Senegal is in mourning over the loss of a veteran Boxer and Referee, Pa Abraham Longe who passed away last Sunday at 77.
The man who had several nicknames like baba Uyeeee and Mr. Long given to him when British boxing tutors came for an AIBA upgrade in 1991 called him instead of Mr. Longe hails from Akure in Ondo State. He boxed from 1965 but became a boxing referee in 1977. He will be buried on 23rd and 24th April Patmos Media Line gathered.
Ace African Boxer, Isaac Ikhuoria of Nigeria expressed sadness that “Baba is leaving us at the time we need his experience and character. He was so upright and honest that people in the corridors of boxing management hated him. Baba hated cheating as it was common to swap victory for their boys then”.
“We had serious problems in officiating and Baba who was against cheating was suspended and I recall us boxing coaches protested against the suspension. We were irked because baba told us we were mortgaging the future of our boxers”.
Ikhuoria said the encomiums on their platform which eroded agitations over the Olympic qualifier miss show the level of respect for the old man. Condolence messages had poured in from all the Boxing Referees and Judges Association to their mentor who passed on.
Secretary of the Association, Mr. Tunde Laguda when contacted by Patmos Media Line said the Association was in great mourning of their great boxing mentor adding that the Association was working with the family to give the late boxer and impartial judge a befitting burial.
