The Northern Governors Forum (NGF) is demanding their share of the Covid-19 donations fund from the Federal Government to combat the spread of the virus in their area.
The Governors made the demand after a meeting of their Forum stating that the North also require special funds to make them break even with the battle against the virus.
They cited the N10bn intervention fund released to Lagos State in March by President Muhammadu Buhari.
Chairman of NGF, Simon Lalong insisted that if released unto them, the fund will assist them to prevent any outbreak as well as prepare against any eventuality.
It was shocking when the NGF said so far “no state in the region had received a dime as special (palliative) allocations despite the fact that some of them have recorded cases while others are making frantic effort to prevent any outbreak, as well as prepare against any eventuality”.
They relied on the axiom that prevention is better than cure so the FG should release special funds to them as done to other states and regions.
Lalong said a total lockdown is impossible in the North because most of the people are farmers who need to cultivate their farms as the rainy season is here.
