The Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrasheed Akanbi.
The randy traditional boxer, Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrasheed Akanbi who punched another traditional and boasted that Obas who suspended him were only jealous of his swagger has finally bowed to the six months suspension slapped on him by the Osun State Traditional Council.
Secretary of the Iwo Traditional Council, Chief Kamoru Ademola conveyed the submission of the Oluwo in a statement from Iwo on Tuesday evening.
Chief Ademola said the Oluwo In Council viewed the incident of alleged beating of the Agbowu of Ogbaagba, Oba Akinropo as a regrettable and unfortunate incident but denied there was any assault between them.
He wrote: “We respect the decision of the Osun State Council of Obas to suspend the Oluwo from the Council of Obas meetings. The suspension was harsh and undeserved but the Oluwo will abide by it”.
He expressed gratitude and respect to the Council of Obas under the leadership of His Royal Majesty, the Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Adewusi 11.
The Oluwo had earlier rejected the suspension saying that those who sat and suspended him did so because they could not cope with his swagger.
The incident has whipped up public outcry and call for the suspension and removal of the Oluwo who was accused of public indecency. Instead, the Oluwo sent out a viral video abusing and cursing the assaulted Oba saying the Oba will end up as a psychiatric patient.
The flashy Oluwo had done many things since his installation to draw the anger of the people. He turned his domain to an Emirate which is strange in Yoruba culture; fought and banished a leading popular Iwo High Chief, Abiola Ogundokun; he had divorced his wife whom she gave a crown to contrary to Yoruba custom and picked quarrels with leading traditional leaders over supremacy battle.
