The Chief of Staff to the President, Mallam Abba Kyari is dead.
He died of the Coronavirus disease late on Friday.
Although Patmos Media Line was informed at exactly 1830 hours of Friday of his demise by a top source in the Presidency but it was not possible to break the news then because of the protocol of announcements of dead important personalities in Nigeria.
Mallam Abba Kyari was a close ally of President Buhari. Here from the file was their last photograph together.
As at 1930 hours we gathered that Aso Villa where he worked in his last days was thrown into unusual quietness as the broken hearted President Buhari went out of circulation himself for the news was too heavy for him.
Every effort to reach the Media chiefs of the President proved abortive fuelling suspicion that something more than the expected was happening at the Villa.
The Special Assistant to the President, Femi Adesina broke the news in a terse statement at about 00:30 hours of Saturday.
His words: “The Presidency regrets to announce the passage of the Chief of Staff to the President, Mallam Abba Kyari. The deceased had tested positive to the ravaging covid-19, and had been receiving treatment. But died on Friday, April 17, 2020”.
Adesina said funeral arrangements will be announced shortly which was another one off what was known as all persons who died of the disease automatically gets buried by government anywhere in the world.
Most of them buried in a mass grave so it is not clear whether Abba Kyari will be buried in the burial ground hurriedly put together by Government at Lokogoma area of the FCT.
Mallam Abba Kyari had tested positive to covid-19 on March 23 but announced by the Presidency on March 24th.
He had travelled to Germany and Egypt with top Power officials before he tested positive but till date we were not told of the status of others.
Patmos Media Line had reported exclusively that he was put at the DSS facility at Asokoro near the ECOWAS Secretariat. A ventilator was withdrawn for him then from the Gwagwalada Hospital but rumors went round that he was secretly flown abroad for treatment which Patmos Media Line contested.
Abba Kyari represented President Buhari at the funeral of the mother of Kogi State Governor.
However, he was flown to Lagos by private arrangements and the Lagos Sate Commissioner for Health, Prof Akin Abayomi denied knowledge of that till date but we learnt he died in Lagos and his body may be flown to Abuja on Saturday morning.
Many State Governors who tested positive to the disease were his contacts as he did not initially go into self-isolation and traveled around on official functions.
Abba Kyari a Lawyer and well-read man had worked in the law firm of Remi Fanikayode father of Femi Fanikayode who berated people who at a time rumored the death of Abba Kyari who is married with four children.
Femi Adesina said may his soul rest in peace.
