The hope of Britain to lift a European trophy this year was snuffed out as their remaining hope, the Red Devils known as Manchester United was shoved out by Spanish side, Sevilla 2-1 in the semifinal of the Europa League played Sunday night.
Penalty kick specialist, Bruno Fernadez raised the hopes of the Devils as he neatly slotted in a good one in the 9th minute after the centre Ref., Dr. Felix Brych had blown a foul on Marcus Rashford by Diego Carlos.
Former Liverpool player, Suso equalized in the 26th minute.
Sevilla’s hope of lifting their 6th Europa cup came as Luuk de Jong came from the bench to score the decider in the 78th minute.
Records have it that Sevilla played 20 matches unbeaten in all competitions and have not allowed a second half goal through 12 matches.
Sevilla played the 4-3-3 system while Man U played 4-2-3-1 with a sloppy defence and a wobbling midfield. Nigeria’s Odion Ighalo was introduced into the game at 93 minutes.
Sevilla had conquered both Wolves and Man U from Britain to meet the winner of Inter Milan versus Shakhtar in the final on Friday.
Inter Milan will battle Shakhtar Monday at 2000 hours in the second semifinal.
