The Supreme Court of Nigeria Tuesday turned down the appeal of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Emeka Ihedioha as the January 14 judgment makes Senator Hope Uzodinma of the All Peoples Congress (APC) the Governor for the next four years.
The lead team was under the Chief Justice of the Federation, Justice Ibrahim Muhammed and five others but their judgment read by Justice Olukakode Ariwoola said, "We have no competence to revert our own judgment, It is against the constitution Justice Ariwoola insisted that the application was an invitation for the Supreme Court to sit on appeal over her own final judgment.
There was however a dissenting judgment from Justice Centus Nweze who disagreed with the lead verdict and gave allowance to Ihedioha's appeal.
Nweze said he was satisfied that that the judgment that declared Hope Uzodinma winner was entered in error. He held that the apex court has a duty to in the interest of justice, set aside its decision that was given in error.
Our Correspondent said security men took over the streets of Owerri to maintain order in case there is a breakdown to peace in the State capital.
