Tennis upset: Naomi Osaka lifts US Open women’s Single shield thrash Victoria Azarenka 1-6, 6-3, 6-3

Japanese 4th seeded Naomi Osaka has won the US Open women’s Singles title beating former world No 1 Victoria Azarenka 1-6, 6-3, 6-3 at the center court of Authur Ashe Stadium in a grueling match that ended at 11:10pm Nigerian time.

The 22 year old thereby takes home $3million while Azarenka collects $1.5million prize money in the match where Naomi had six ace services and Victoria got three.

However Victoria who rely so much on a strong mind with which she dismissed Tennis Stallion, Serena Williams in the semis, was better with first services getting 74% to Naomi’s 67%.

Naomi Osaka born in Osaka Japan on 16thOctober 1997 was the first Asian female player to ever be ranked no 1 by the World Tennis Association from where she recorded 5 titles and currently ranked 10th in the world.

Victoria Azarenka from Belarus was born 31st July 1989 had won 21 WTA singles titles

Earlier, the pair of X. Xu/N. Melicha had beaten L. Siegemund/V. Zvonareva 6-4, 6-4 to win the women’s doubles title.

In a few hours’ time, the Men’s Singles final between No 2 seeded Dominic Thiem and no 5 seeded Alexander Zverev will be decided at the Arthur Ashe Stadium.
