UI ORDERS STUDENTS TO LEAVE FROM FRIDAY. IGINEDION UNIVERSITY GIVES STUDENTS 72 HOURS TO LEAVE.


Nigeria’s maiden University, the University of Ibadan has shut down all academic activities and ordered all her students, undergraduate, postgraduate, secondary and primary schools to vacate the campus with immediate effect.

Registrar of the institution, Dr. Olubunmi Faluyi said the authorities of the institution took the decision to curtail the spread of the pandemic Coronavirus.

The decision it was learnt was reached after an extensive meeting that ran late into Thursday night.

Dr. Faluyi said the Student Affairs Division of the University has been directed to make special arrangements for International students who are unable to vacate the hostels immediately adding that the institution would remain closed until further notice.


“All primary and secondary schools located within the campus of the university are hereby advised to close until the pandemic is brought under effective control’’, she said.

Dr. Faluyi also stated that, “all staff and students are strongly advised to adhere strictly to all health safety measures to avoid exposure to or contact with the virus’’.

Earlier, the University Muslim community had suspended the weekly Friday Jumat service until further notice for fear of Coronavirus.

News from the Okada Town of the Igbinedion University says the institution has given all her students, undergraduates or post graduates 72 hours to vacate the campus from Friday because of Coronavirus epidemic.

More public and private institutions are expected to shut down this weekend because the federal Ministry of Education has ordered them all to shut down from Monday, 23rd March 2020.
