Henceforth Youth Corps members are to be prepared for security challenges of the nation with intense training at Martial Arts.
Director General of the National Youth Service Corps scheme, Brig. Gen. Shuaibu Ibrahim broke the news in his address to the swearing in of 2020 Batch “A’’ throughout the federation.
He counseled the Corps members to “be wise to take this training seriously in order to enhance your personal security” in view of incessant kidnapping of members.
Gen. Ibrahim told the Corpers that in the three weeks of camping, there will be observance of strict regimentation in all activities stressing that they will not have absolute freedom as that will be curtailed.
“You are expected to conform to the regulations guiding the orientation camp as we intend to align to prevailing security and economic challenges”, he added. He said his speech notwithstanding; the NYSC will be in touch with security agencies to protect Corps members throughout the service year.
Gen. Ibrahim made the Corps members shout Aluta Continua a slang they were used to in their student days when he said: “Yours is an elite scheme that parades a pool of enlightened and sophisticated class of Nigerian youths, pulled together from diverse social cultural and religious backgrounds, with a united purpose of building a strong, indivisible and egalitarian entity”.
Gen. Ibrahim also said Corps members have challenges with financial security because many of them who left a decade ago do not have jobs which lead to criminality such as robbery, adva
nce free fraud, prostitution, drug peddling and abuse to mention a few.
He urged the present members to pay close attention to business classes during orientation so that they can set up their personal businesses.
